October meeting digest

12th October

Talk from Stewart Harris (NAViGO – Clinical Lead – Harrison House) and Dr Sajiid  (NAViGO Medical Director) which included and update on acute services, new bedroom on each lodge at Harrison House and at Pelham Lodge and one to be done on Meridian Lode.  Crisis to be moved to the Lodges so all medical staff will be under one roof.  Discussion on A & E crisis support which although not on site can get access to services withn an hour.  Non urgent cases should be seen by care co-ordinators.   There are supervised trainees at mental health outpatients clinics.  Stewart to do training with the police so they can relate to mental health cases they attend.  there is a need for a consistent standard as some police are drafted in from other areas and may have different protocols.

Aga paharmacist attended and responded to a number of questions.

Report back on Harrison house meeting which included listening to patients concerns after meeting.  Issues addressed afterwards.

19th October

Speaker: Amanada Simpson (Manager Eating Disorder, lead clinician for serious incidents) who gave information on the unit and her role which includes being head of nursing..  She also provided information on eating disorder characteristics and statistics.

Also in attendance were two NAViGO care co-ordinators who discussed their role with the group.

Harrison House feedback provided.  No current issues , but follow up on last week’s report required.

26th October

Speaker: Liz Scott (Rharian Fields- Senior Nursing Assistant) who talked about The Little Brick Building at People’s Park in Grimsby near the Floral Hall at People’s Park.  Mention of holistic therapies and their benefits including: Reiki, Indian Head Massage, back, neck and shoulder massage, reflexology, mindfulness and holistic facial massage.

There was an update from the pharmacist including the new service where pharmacists can treat minor aliments from colds, flu and skin infections.

NAViGO community rep was present with discussion on Home from Home which has closed.  There was no consultation on the closure.  The Steering Group takes place on second Friday of the month at Careers Centre between 10 – 12.  It is important that NAViGO get their views.  There was no advertising for Mental Health Day earlier in the month.

Harrison House feedback: issues with patients discussed after meeting with private concerns as to some issues of patient management.  appear to have been resolved.
